Food Redirection

Four paths of redirection

We redirect our produce through four pathways to ensure that Kanbe’s is sustainable and doing our best to fight food waste.

Kanbe's Markets saves thousands of pounds of produce from going to waste every week! Their team partners with local wholesalers to rescue "ugly" landfill bound fruits and veggies and redirect them to one of the following paths.

  1. Grocery store-quality produce is sent to Kanbe's Healthy Corner Store program.

  2. "Ugly" produce, think fruits and veggies with cosmetic imperfections, is donated to other KC nonprofits for their programming.

  3. Food that's past human consumption but a furry or feathered friend might enjoy it is sent to a variety of local animal rescues or farms!

  4. Lastly, any fruits and veggies that are compost bound are sent to be made into nutrient dense compost for farmers across the United States.

    Totals rescued produce  = 702,242lbs

    • Grocery store quality (HCS) = 93,687lbs

    • Ugly produce sent to other nonprofits = 287,393lbs

    • Animal consumption = 103,948lbs

    • Compost = 217,214lbs
