Kansas City, MO. — (August 27, 2024) —As part of Hunger Action Month this September, the Kanbe’s Markets team is excited to announce the inaugural Kanbe’s Community Carnival, which will take place on September 21 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Linwood YMCA. This free event—and the entire month of September—presents an opportunity for Kansas City families to come together, build community, and take a stand against food insecurity.
Hunger Action Month is a nationwide campaign dedicated to raising awareness about hunger in the United States and mobilizing the public to take action. During September, Kanbe’s has committed to redirecting 100,000 pounds of produce back into the Kansas City community as part of its 2024 goal to save one million pounds of fruits and vegetables from landfills.
"Hunger Action Month is a crucial time for us at Kanbe's Markets,” said Loveless Jones, Grassroots Community Coordinator at Kanbe’s Markets. “Our team works year-round to break down barriers to healthy eating and mobilize our community to ensure that families have the knowledge and resources they need to make healthier choices.”
Throughout September, Kanbe’s will partner and collaborate with a wide network of local bars and restaurants to raise funds for better food access, including Cliff's Taphouse, Goat & Rabbit, Golden Ox, Lula Southern Cookhouse, Mildred's, Muni, Pierpont’s, The Belfry, The Campground, The W, Thelma's Kitchen, Vine Street Brewing, and Voltaire. This city-wide campaign will directly contribute to bringing high-quality produce at affordable prices to low-income and low-access areas through Kanbe’s Healthy Corner Stores.
The Kanbe’s Community Carnival will feature activities, including games, live entertainment, and opportunities to connect with local organizations working towards food justice and learn more about the importance of healthy eating. The event will also make fresh fruits and vegetables available for all attendees.
"We believe that access to fresh food is a fundamental right for every individual, and Hunger Action Month is the perfect time to amplify this message," said Max Kaniger, founder and CEO of Kanbe’s Markets. "The Kanbe’s Community Carnival is not just about providing food—it’s about bringing our community together to take action and build a healthier, stronger Kansas City. We are grateful for their collaboration and commitment to making Kansas City a better place for all.”
Hunger Action Month is made possible by Kanbe’s generous community partners, including First Interstate Bank, KCWE—Hunger Free KC Partnership, the Linwood YMCA, Oracle, Rose Productions, Suntory Global Spirits and WellSky Foundation.
